è da un po' che mi frulla in testa di utilizzare i semi delle carte per creare qualcosa, e oggi è la giornata giusta: "come quando fuori piove"!!!

For a lot of time I've been thinking to use the suits of
cards to create something, and today is the right day!
Ho visto che nel web ci sono parecchi tutorial sulla tecnica dell'appliqué ma visto che ci servirà in molte occasioni vi lascio anche il mio.
Occorrente:
Freezer Paper o carta biadesiva, facilmente reperibile nei negozi specializzati in patchwork. Un lato è liscio e ci si può disegnare sopra, l'altro di presenta granuloso e ruvido al tatto ed è il lato adesivo.
Tessuto
Disegni a piacere. Io ho scaricato i semi delle carte da internet.
Primo step:
Scegliete un disegno che vi piace, ritagliatelo e poggiatelo sulla parte liscia, non adesivata della freezer paper

I saw several tutorials about appliqué technique but since
we will use it many times, here is mine.
You will need:
Freezer Paper or paper adhesive on both sides, easily
available at stores specialized in patchwork. One side is smooth and you can
draw on it, the other side is grained to the touch and it's the adhesive side.
Tissue
Drawings as desired. I downloaded the cards from internet.
First step:
Choose a design you like, cut it out and place it on the
smooth side, not on the adhesive side of freezer paper

Seguendo il contorno delle sagome disegnate le figure

Second step:
Following the outline of shapes drawn figures
Terzo step:
Ritagliate grossolanamente: in questa fase la precisione non ci serve, anzi ci serve un margine di carta su cui lavorare

Third step:
Cut roughly: we do not need the precision, rather we need a
margin of paper on which to work
Quarto step:
Posizionate la freezer paper sul rovescio del tessuto prescelto. La parte adesiva deve essere a contatto con il tessuto. Stirate bene tenendo il ferro da stiro poggiato sulle singole figure per un decina di secondi.

Fourth step:
Place the freezer paper on the back side of the chosen
fabric. The adhesive backing should face the back side of the fabric. Iron
stopping on single figures for about ten seconds.
Quinto step:
Ritagliate con precisione le figure. Troverete l'eccedenza di carta utile in questa fase perché darà consistenza alla stoffa e vi permetterà di tagliare i contorni in maniera precisa
La foto mostra come si presentano le figure sul davanti del tessuto - quadri e cuori - e sul retro con ancora la carta attaccata - fiori e picche

Fifth step:
Cut with precision the figures. You'll find the excess paper
useful because it will give substance to the fabric and will allow you to cut
the edges precisely.
The picture shows the right side of the fabric - diamonds
and hearts - and the back side with the paper still attached - clubs and spades
Sesto step:
importante soprattutto per i lavori più complessi con molti piccoli particolari: posizionate le figure sul tessuto per una visione d'insieme. Nel caso di figure più complesse potete anche scattare una foto - io ad esempio ho usato questo accorgimento con
l'appliquè del gattino

Sixth step:
important especially for more complex work with many small
details: place the figures on the fabric for an overview. In case of more
complex shapes you can also take a picture - I've used this trick with kitten appliqué
Settimo step:
eliminate la carta: vi accorgerete che il retro del tessuto ora risulta gommoso al tatto

Seventh step:
remove the paper: you will notice that the back of the
fabric now is rubbery to the touch
Ottavo step:
riposizionate le figure, il lato adesivo sul dritto del tessuto scelto come base e stirate. Ancora una volta tenete il ferro da stiro fermo su ogni singola figura per una decina di secondi per permettere all'adesivo di stabilizzarsi

Eighth step:
reposition shapes, the adhesive side on the right side of the fabric you've chosen as a base and iron. Again, stop on each fugure for
ten seconds to allow the adhesive to stabilize
Nono step:
si va alla macchina da cucire! Questa fase è importante non solo per l'effetto decorativo che conferisce al lavoro ma anche per preservare l'appliqué intatto con i lavaggi successivi. Io utilizzo un piedino per appliquè che mi permette di seguire più agevolmente i contorni della figura. Sulla mia macchina è presente il punto festone che mi piace particolarmente per l'effetto decorativo che conferisce all'insieme ma anche un punto zig zag è perfetto: fate delle prove e valutate la larghezza e la lunghezza del punto che più vi piacciono.

Ninth step:
it's time to go to the sewing machine! This step is
important not only for the decorative effect which gives but also to preserve
the appliqué intact after washing. I use an appliqué foot that allows me follow
the edge of the figure. On my machine there is a stitch that I particularly
like because of the decorative effect that gives but a zig zag stitch is
perfect: try to experiment with the width and length that you like.
